How do you clean and distribute the eggs?We clean eggs with warm water and a sanitizing solution, a few hours prior packing/distributing the eggs. Washing the eggs removes the protective bloom from the eggshell, making them more susceptible to contamination and spoilage. Cleaning fresh eggs picked up daily from a coop is important to remove any dirt that may be present on the eggshell. Here's a our process for cleaning the eggs: Daily Tasks: Gather and inspect the eggs, discarding eggs that are cracked, broken, or dirty beyond cleaning. Brush gently to remove any visible dirt or debris from the eggshells, and refrigerate, until ready to pack and deliver. Pack and deliver: Rinse the eggs under warm running water. Sanitize: To further reduce bacteria, we dip each egg in a sanitizing solution for about 30 seconds. Place the eggs on a rack to air dry. Once dry, we pack the eggs in 12-egg cartons. The clear plastic cartons are divided into 12 individual compartments, each sized to hold a single egg, to protect the eggs from damage during handling and transport. Refrigerate the cartons immediately to maintain freshness and reduce the risk of bacterial growth. Per order, we deliver the eggs in coolers or insulated containers to maintain the proper temperature. Eggs stored in a cool place, ideally below 45°F (7°C) maintain their freshness. Farm Visitors: When the weather gets warmer, we provide our visitors with insulation containers (extra charge) to transport the eggs to their home. This helps ensure that the eggs remain fresh. It's important to avoid temperatures above 65°F (18°C) to prevent the eggs from spoiling or developing bacteria. Avoid leaving eggs in a hot car for an extended period to prevent the risk of foodborne illness. In hot weather, the interior of a car can quickly reach temperatures that are too high for eggs to remain safe for consumption.
